The "Great American Race" will soon have drivers start their engines as the 56th running of the famed NASCAR event will take place on Sunday, February 23rd at 1:00pm EST. 2014 Daytona 500 odds in Vegas have listed Dale Earnhardt Jr. as the betting favorite.
Despite the drama surrounding the #88's crew chief, Steve Letarte, stepping down from the position at the conclusion of this season; most handicappers feel the Hendrick Motorsports team still has the goods to win the Sprint Cup this year. We are a long way from deciding the season points champion but with an average finish of 6.75 and 3-top 10 finishes since 2012 at the International Speedway, Earnhardt Jr. is a deserving betting favorite looking to win his third title on the track. Not to be outdone, teammate Jimmie Johnson and the #48 team will be looking to win their 3rd victory by the beach. Although Johnson has only had an average finish of 17.5 at the track, 2014 Daytona 500 odds have listed the reigning champion as a 10/1 favorite. Sportsbooks have also listed Johnson at 5/2 to reclaim the Sprint Cup title while Earnhardt Jr. would pay out 10/1 as the points leader at the end of the season.
The third choice to win at Daytona is a three way tie between Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth and Tony Stewart at 12/1. Harvick and Kenseth will take the track having 2-wins at the International Speedway while Stewart will attempt a legendary 5th victory. Bookmakers have listed Kenseth as a 15/2 favorite to win the Cup followed by Harvick as a 16/1 longshot with Stewart at 18/1. Rounding out the top ten selections in 2014 Daytona 500 odds to win the first race of the season are Clint Bowyer, Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne and Kyle Bush at 14/1 with the favorite for rookie of the year Austin Dillion listed at 16/1. The 56th edition of "America's Race" will take place on February 23rd at 1:00pm EST which can be seen live on FOX.
