Super Bowl betting history favors the underdog.Since the opening line in Vegas was posted, San Francisco has been the gambling public's favorite but it is important to note that recent Super Bowl betting history has proven that underdogs vs the point spread have won 4 of the last 5-championship games. That being said, current Vegas Superbowl odds have Baltimore +4 while the moneyline would payout +150 on a $100 wager for the straight up win. Let's take a look at a few of the most recent underdogs to upset the bookmakers and hoist the Lombardi trophy.

The New York Giants won six straight games to end the playoffs with a victory in the title game against the New England Patriots last season as +2.5 dogs while the Steelers failed to cover the 3-point spread in Superbowl XLV against the Green Bay Packers. Before that however, Super Bowl betting history has the underdogs winning three straight championships with New York defeating the Patriots (21-17) at XLII, the Cardinals covering +6.5 against the Steelers at XLIII and the Saints +4.5 vs the Colts at XLIV.

Recent handicapping trends for the head to head match-up have Baltimore with a 3-1 SU advantage vs San Francisco but are just an even 2-2 ATS. The last time Ravens and 49ers met (Nov. 24, 2011), Baltimore earned a 16-6 victory at home and cover the 3.5-points as home favorites. That being said, the Ravens have gone a mediocre 3-4-1 ATS this season when playing on the road while the 49ers have been a profitable 5-3 ATS. Be sure to analyze all the previous winners of the Lombardi trophy below before making that final wager and also receive up to a $250 welcome bonus for the Ravens vs 49ers on February 3rd only at - Bovada.
